Watercolor is one of the newer trends I am enjoying. There are a lot of trends I’m not a fan of (including calling anything “on trend”), but I can get behind the watercolor trend. It’s simple and doesn’t require a lot, if any, new supplies. You can make it fancy by buying fancy new paints (which would be awesome!), or you can use the Toys R Us set you got when you were a kid. You know, for instance.

This weekend I made a card for the Lawnscaping Birthday Challenge.

Hippo Birdie to Lawnscaping from Crafting{without}Kids.

I stamped the hippo and cute little bird from the Year Four Lawn Fawn stamp set and then embossed them in white. I then watercolored over them with my super fancy (see above) watercolors. I added a heart balloon and some twine. Then I spritzed it with the Heidi Swapp Gold Lamé spray. Afterward, I slightly regretted the use of the spray. I really like the spray though; I think it was user error.

Part of the reason I decided on watercolor was seeing all the inspiration over at the Neat & Tangled Little Tangles Watercolor Challenge. That means I get a two-for-one! 🙂

My mom gave me a pack of the amazing Lawn Fawn notecards in Wild Rose so I thought the Little Tangles Mini Cards Challenge would be the perfect chance to try them out.

Mmmm…Cupcakes…

Bling!

I wish the color had come out better on these… The actual color is more of a salmon rose and is just gorgeous. Ranger’s Liquid Platinum embossing powder was used on both cards. I blame Jennifer McGuire and the AMAZING people at Ranger for getting me addicted to that. 🙂

I used the Neat & Tangles set Sketchy Cupcakes on the first card. The sentiment is from Neat & Tangles Across the Card.

On the second card, I used Neat & Tangles Sparkle & Shine for the bling and sentiment. The banner is from Party Dots.

It was great to play with a new size. Thanks for having this fun challenge!

I thought the new Little Tangles challenge to make a monochromatic card wouldn’t be that bad. All I had to do was pick a color and I was good to go, right?

Yeah, I was Wrong.

It was quite the challenge to add depth and interest with only the one color (and accent of silver). I found papers that I liked right away, but they were competing with each other. Thank goodness I was at a crop and my trusty friend Makalah suggested using the vellum–GENIUS! It really helped to add another tint by adding the slight white of the vellum.

Awww…I think they like each other!

I used the birds from the Neat & Tangled set My Heart Sings and SkyLark pattern paper from CTMH. I used some Washi tape (man I LOVE Washi tape!), to attach the vellum to the card base. The silver paper is the DCWV Gliz paper. Definitely my favorite of all the glitter papers. Some of my new favorite SU ribbon finished it off. This wasn’t the easiest card I’ve ever made,  but I like how it turned out in the end and I hope you do too!

The card I made for today’s Little Tangles Challenge was fun. As you might know, I’m really addicted to all the new little wooden shapes popping up. I bought a ton of Prima ones, but I was at Michael’s before the retreat this weekend and found they have a bunch too. So, of course, I had to buy some (or a lot). And they even come in these great little wooden boxes. I’ve already re-purposed one into another challenge project I’ll post later this week. YAY! But I digress… The Little Tangles Challenge for this week is Emboss It!

Emboss It Challenge!

I wasn’t sure if it would work, and I think I need a couple more tries at it, but I think the little mushroom has some character now.

Happy Day card with Wood Veneers and paper piecing

Good Day to be an Owl!

Here’s a look at the layers of the card.

Layers and More Layers!

Layers and More Layers!

It’s a little hard to see, but I colored the mushroom top with shiny red Smooch Ink and then I used the Stampendous Boss Gloss and clear embossing powder on the mushroom top to give it some shine and dimension. The clouds also have shiny resist. Little owl man is stamped from the Little Bear set and the sentiment is from the Fresh Blooms stamp set.

And for those interested, I did Make Something with my Scraps today. Day 2 complete. 🙂

I’ve probably said this before, but I LOVE paper piecing. Neat & Tangled stamps are really fun to paper piece (one of my 3 favorites). Their newest challenge is all about Kraft paper.

I haven’t used much Kraft paper in the past. Most of the Kraft paper I’ve purchased was pretty cheap stuff in bulk packages. It was more like a piece of brown grocery bag than actual cardstock. I’ve heard a lot of good things about the Neenah Kraft cardstock so I ordered some to try. It’s very smooth and really nice to stamp on. It’s a little lighter than I would normally use for a card base, but it’s not too light that it’s going to be an issue.

And a detail of the flowers…

YouAreTooKindDetail

I stamped the flowers from the Neat & Tangled set Fresh Blooms and the sentiment is from Kindness Matters. The bottom flower is two of them layered. The papers are from the Fancy Pants collection Park Bench that were in my April Simon Says Stamp card kit.

Of course, since I was in a flower mode, I also entered this in The Paper Girls Challenge #29: April Showers Bring May Flowers.
