What’s on Your Workdesk? Wednesday: 263

Hi Everyone!

I love peeking at everyone’s workspaces on What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday hosted by Stamping Ground. Go take a look (but come on back). It’s so much fun!

I had hoped that more jewelry would be making it’s way onto the table, but right now, that doesn’t seem to be the case (although, maybe there’s some under there somewhere). I have been “saving” some blank canvases hoping to someday do Something with them, but that perfect thing isn’t coming and basically I’m just storing them at this point. So I decided to pull one out, throw some distress paint, embossing paste, and color through stencils on it and see what happens. Obviously, it’s not finished, and the doily and bird aren’t attached, but I thought it would be fun to just add stuff to it here and there. We’ll see. Maybe it will be nothing, but for now, it’s a start (which is more than it was before)!

Be Inspired Challenge #53

The last batch of cards that I’ve made have turned out a lot more CAS than usual. Almost all were on plain white card bases with a top-folding orientation. I don’t really know why, but it’s been interesting to mix it up a little. In that vein, I found yet another challenge blog that I haven’t played with before. This one is BE Inspired and uses TheAlleyWay stamps.

Now that’s one fly party! (tee hee) I used TheAlleyWay Sushi Bar set with the crane in it. The chipboard sentiment is from the Basic Grey RSVP collection and I blinged (yeah, that’s totally a word!) it out a little with the best rhinestones out there–Stampin’ Up. The inks are all Hero Arts. Now…is it Saturday(Game Day) yet? Let’s Party!

A New Place to Play: Fusion

I really don’t even remember how I got there, but I found a new (to me) site to play with a challenge! This one is unique too. There’s a sketch AND an image. You can choose one or both, creating a fusion of the two. Here is the inspiration:

I love the image and I think working with a sketch is a lot of fun so I chose to use both in the true Fusion style.

I think it turned out really cool! I used Simon Says Stamp sets for the flowers, Favorite Flowers, and sentiment, Thinking of You. The really thin washi tape is from Amy Tangerine Plus One Mixed Tape. The Distress inks are Picked Raspberry, Spiced Marmalade, and Mustard Seed. Sketches are great in that they provide a very basic framework and you can still be creative, if not more so because of the slight limitation. I’m sure that all the cards for the challenge will be vastly different even though they have the same basic elements. Thanks for visiting!

Runway Inspired Challenge 61: Delpozo

Even though I don’t do them as often as I’d like, I really enjoy the Runway Inspired Challenges. I think it’s great to see all the interpretations of fashion in card form. If you go and check them out, it will be worth it. This week’s challenge is Delpozo.

And here is my take:

I chose to do a top folding card to mimic her long lines, and I used the scallops to reflect the shape of the shirt. In person, the white embossing stands out better than in the picture, but that’s just my less than stellar photography skills 😉 I also like using the stitching as a little wink 😉 to this being a fashion challenge. Now I just need to find someone with a birthday that really likes Minnie Mouse because I think this card screams Disney (you were thinking it too, right?). It wasn’t really my intention, but I think that’s okay. Minnie’s a classic, right? And Classic’s never go out of style!

1 Down, 9 To Go!

You may remember that I signed up for BoardGameGeek’s challenge of playing 10 different games, 10 times, in 2014 (#10x10in2014). You can go here if you want to follow my progress.

First game conquered:

A fairly simple game that was very easy to get people to play. The first time I brought it to my local game night at I’m Board (awesome store!), I played it THREE TIMES! Lots of people there were interested and since it is a quick game to play AND teach (and I’m not particularly adept at teaching games), it was easy to do. I’d definitely recommend this for families or people that want a lighter fast little game.

My two-cents tips:

1. Don’t give a new player Green. The screen is shaded so it’s harder to distinguish between the Green and Clear materials when looking at the scoring.

2. Emphasize that the points scored each round reset. Those are “fake” points just determining position.

3. Make sure they know that the dice don’t have to be in the same configuration as they are on the screen for scoring.

That’s it! I have another big Game Day next weekend, (although day is misleading since it goes from 11am until 3am-ish) so I’m hoping to get one or two of the games on my list played. I’m looking at you Takenoko!

I’ll Take it To Go!

I have a really great little Lawn Fawn stamp set called Good Fortune that I’ve had for what feels like forever and I’ve never really used it. It has a great fortune cookie with interchangeable fortunes and a little take out box. I mean, I’ve used the teeny tiny heart from it, but that’s hardly the point, right? I was at my monthly crop this last weekend (can’t you tell? I mean, I’m doing a blog post 😉 ), and I really tried to limit the stamp sets I brought and that one made the cut. So it was finally my chance to use it!

 

 

 

YUM!

So cute, right? I don’t know why I didn’t get around to using this set before. I heat embossed the container with my new favorite Liquid Platinum embossing powder from Ranger on Cut & Paste paper from Amy Tangerine. I used a friend’s Cuttlebug embossing folder from the Decorative Tile set to add a little texture to the otherwise fairly simple card. I was going to stamp out the chopsticks that are in the set, but then I noticed my toothpicks and decided to cut those into chopsticks instead. A much better (and cuter) decision. 🙂
